中國空軍第五路司令官晏玉琮上校（音）將中國空軍飛行員胸章別到來自紐約市的約翰·裴巴傑克上尉，以及加州的威廉姆·雷泰爾中尉胸前，兩人分別是蔣介石委員長專機的正副駕駛員。這架名為「美齡」號的專機，由中國戰區美軍最高司令官、中國戰區最高司令長官蔣介石的參謀長魏德邁中將作為禮物贈送給蔣公。中華民國總統親自下令，授予這兩名美國飛行員中國空軍榮譽飛行員的稱號。

Colonel Yeng Yu-tsung,commander of the Chinese Fifth Route Air Force,pins Chinese pilot's wings on Capt.John S.Papajik(left)of New York City and First Lieutenant William E.Lytle of Huntington Park,Cal.,pilot and co-pilot of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek's personal plane.The plane,named"Mei Ling"in honor of Madam Chiang Kai-shek,was the gift of Lieutenant General A.C.Wedemeyer,commander of U.S.Forces in the China Theater and Chief of staff to the Generalissimo.The American pilots were made honorary members of the Chinese Air Force at the personal direction of the President of the Republic of China.
