Laying Eggs by Parachute

One of the strangest methods of merchandise delivery yet to be devised is that of parachuting eggs to earth for the use of American soldiers in the jungles of Burma where other methods of delivery are impossible.Corp.Fred E.Kennon,Chester,S.C.,is packing eggs for dropping by a14-foot parachute.More than200eggs are packed in each basket,rice husks instead of sawdust being used to absorb the shock.The Quartermaster truck units responsible for the preparation of these supplies have received no complaints about broken eggs on arrival.

S/Sgt.Daniel W.McCall,Lufkin,Texas,of53rd Army's American liaison group headquarters,was in charge of G.I.s contribution of M-1steel helmets to Chinese units assaulting Tengchung's heavily fortified Jap positions.American liaison officers and enlisted men were glad to help out their Chinese Ally instead of delaying the offensive to wait for helmets ordered from near supply depots.These helmets were given Chinese troops carrying flame-throwers,bazookas,and other assault weapons.
