3 … (A)jita says: When the noble Metrak became (13) an eight-year old, just at that time
4 …he surpassed the Brahmins. Why that? He (had studied) the eighteen treatises concerning Vidyasthanas. (14)

Notes (1) Hereafter till I, 10 b 30 the Uighur version is terribly damaged. In many lines, only one or a few words are left; afterwards, the entire leaves 11 and 12 are lost. It therefore cannot help us to understand the Tocharian version. – The verb pälkār is found complete in TS. A 293 a 3.
(2) Two stanzas of 4×4 (7/7) syllables, cf. TS. A 293 a 3.
(3) The meaning is obscure. Maybe it means: he gives numberless alms.
(4) Probably restored as (märka)mpal.
(5) Complemented according to Ui. II. I, 8 a 28-30.
(6) According to Ui. II. I, 8 b 2-3. One can complete tsopats (、) or tsopats a ṃ.
(7) According to Ui. II. I, 8 b 4-6. End of the first pāda of a stanza of 4×12 (5/7) syllables, the name of which is incomplete.
(8) puk is singular; after that, the most probable analysis is: tñy plus the beginning of another word (a verb?).
(9) krañsäṣ, to be restored as krañ(c)säṣ. The obl. pi. of kāsu is krañcäls. According to the context, krañsäṣ here can only be the abl. pi. of kāsu.
(10) Sic! The reading is sure, against expected kuyalte, as elsewhere.
(11) Ui. II. I, 8 b 19-20: "our teacher Bādhari the Brahmin becomes the teacher of all."
(12) kuc prak ṣ a l, literally: "what is to ask?" It might be suitable to translate it into: "Let alone, how much less." Cf. YQ1.42 [II.3] b 6: kuc prak ṣ a l pācräṣ.
(13) kak a ṃ (= kakäṃ) must be an independent word: a verb, 3rd sg. active, and past tense, A equivalent of B preterite kyāna.
(14) Cf. Ui. II. I, 9 a 1-2. Skt. vidyāsthāna- "domain of knowledge"; there are 18 of them.
(15) In Tocharian the number is put behind the words, not as in English before the words.
(16) Probably śt a (k) = śtäk, corresponding to B śatka, preterite of kätk-, cf. āsuk kätk- "to surpass" (cf. Thomas, 1964, p. 83).
(17) For kāswoneyäntu, pl. nom.-obl.; cf. käswoneyntu, TS. A 293 b 3.
