1 (having heard) and having recognized (both) proper observance according to the good rule, and the householdership directed toward evil (9) . He who selects for himself the householdership, he will be one to cause confusion to the good ones.
2 (2 ||) (Therefore am I now) going away from the house in accordance with the Law proclaimed (10) so well by the Buddha-(god the teacher). If this is your choice too, do the same! || With body bowed 3 (|| In the Pañcama (11) [tune]) || We see the tripartite world burning all around with three fires; to the Nirvāṇa, extinguishing all three fires, 4 /// a strong (wish) to go away from the house toward monkhood: what (other (12) way) but monkhood could there be for us? 1
5 /// (now) we are going away from the house. || Thereupon, Paiṅgika the brahmin youth, with his (body) bowed 6 (and his palms placed together, says to the venerable Metrak: Oh venerable teacher!) (13) … it is known (14) to you that we (have to) report this precise thing to (our) teacher!
7 /// I am going to report this matter to Bādhari the teacher (15) , therefore (I would like to go) to the land of Dakṣiṇāpatha.
